V-Day

It’s important that after Yendis had our son I don’t get caught up my work too much to let her know how I feel about her. So, I think I’ve planned something really nice for V-Day. It involves a secluded spot about an hour or so from Nashville. She’s not big on the wilderness and it’s supposed to storm but I think it will still turn out to be great. It’s not like we are going to be roughing it at all. We have to celebrate tomorrow night because it’s the only time we can find someone to watch Juhlyun for the night. So, tomorrow will be our V-Day. Yendis doesn’t really like the holiday but I’ve been trying for the past couple years to get her to accept it as a great holiday. I know it’s been over-commercialized but that doesn’t stop us from celbrating Christmas. Anyways, I’ll post more about it when we get back. I don’t want to say to much in case she sees my post.

All Avenues Lead Back Home

I haven’t written in my blog in a long time. I know, it’s a terrible thing. I went from almost every day to gaps of a week or more. So, I’m going to talk about several things in this entry to go over what’s happened in the past couple weeks.

First of all, January 14th was my birthday. We went to a club called ‘Love’ in DC. It had 4 levels. One of those super clubs. It was really great. Yendis made us late because she had a last minute change of mind about her outufit but it still turned out great. Most of my friends didn’t come. In fact, a client of mine came to party with us. He came with his wife. We had a great time. The next day we went to the water front in DC and ate at an ‘all you can eat’ seafood place that was the best. We ate till we just couldn’t any more. Then, we left DC.

When I got back to Tennessee I was swamped with too much work. It’s been so bad I had to quit biding on projects. I incorporated my business the first week I was back. So, I am now the president of Bluepaw Enterprises Inc. I started using some international programmers to help me get some of my projects off of the table. Work has been hectic. I’m still trying to find a great programmer to partner up with.

Juhlyun has been doing good. He got weighed and measured a week ago. He is 27 inches long (which is in the 97th precentile for his age, wow!) and 15 pounds 6 ounces. I have a feeling he is going to be very tall when he grows up. He enjoys throwing his arms in the air and making all kinds of noises and sounds. He’s very attentive and has now started eating cereal and fruit instead of just milk. All organic foods of course.

I’ll do another post in a couple days. Till then, enjoy the week.

Happy New Year 2007

I spent all day yesterday lounging as many people did after drinking too much the night before. I know I should have been working with all of the tight schedules I’m under but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it, being a holiday and all. I did call a couple of my international clients and discuss some things with them. But, I really didn’t do much. New Years tends to be one of my favorite holidays along with Independence Day. I’m sure as my son gets older I will find Christmas more appealing.

I had my son Christened and Baptized on New Years Eve. I’m not a big fan of baptism this early but it seems it was part of the ceremony. I don’t want to force religion upon my son but I want him to know it exists and understand it. Yendis (my girlfriend) is more religious than me, as well. So, she really wanted to do it more than I did. Anyways, it turned out to be a beautiful ceremony. Further, a lot of my family attended and seemed to enjoy the church service. The church I go to here in my home town is really lively and they really get in to the message and worship. So, it was very different from my own family’s church. They highly enjoyed it.

This year will be one of prosperity and growth for my family. For many families it will still be a year of struggle and we need to think about how we can help bring those families up. Education (not just in the way of schooling) is the primary way people can bring themselves up. Learning how this society really works and it’s history would benefit every person. Yes, people can’t eat education but they can eat what is produced by education.

Any readers of my blog who need any help feel free to ask. I’ll do what I can to help. Any readers of this blog who can offer help to another, please do. We can improve the world one person at a time. Happy New Year and may your year be a prosperous one.

Damn Stomach Flu

Uhg… I just now somewhat recovered from a very special Christmas gift of the Stomach Flu. It was absolutely terrible. I could barely sit down to do anything. I’m still here in Virginia. Right now I’m doing some work from one my Client’s office. It’s pretty cool except everybody in his office seems to smoke in the office. I might have to limit my trips here because of that. unfortunate fact. I used to smoke but can’t really tolerate it too well any more. It gives me a headache. My son has managed to stay on his sleeping schedule despite the fact we have had him all over the place. He sleeps pretty much all night. Well, I’ll post again later.

Back In Virginia

Hello. Sorry I haven’t posted in a couple days. I just took the trip back to Virginia to come see family. I will post a large post tomorrow when I get a chance.

Broke for Christmas

I’ve found I don’t have much money to buy Christmas presents, once again. I have enough to get back home for Christmas and come back. But, all my money comes in after the holiday. So, I’m going to have to be very frugal this holiday season. Money isn’t coming in until Jan. 1. But, I guess getting home for the holidays is enough for most of my family. I just wanted to be able to do more this Christmas. Anyways, I hope everybody’s holiday is fruitful.

Family Unification

I was talking to a friend the other day about the death of a central family member and how it tends to split apart families. My family lives all over the country in little pockets. So, that makes it difficult to get people together. But further everyone in my family is very opinionated and stubborn (including myself, even though I try not to be). So, when people in our family disagree they tend to just not talk to each other and hold a grudge. I’ve been slowly trying to reunite my family because I believe it’s what my grandmother and grandfather would want. They seemed to easily keep the family together from what I’ve heard. I never knew my grandfather even though I was named after him. He died three years before I was born. But, everyone says he kept the family glued together. I’ve always said that I’m not sure I’m up for the task, because it’s so difficult to get these people together. However, I know that if I don’t do it nobody will. Plus, there are others in the family who want the same thing so I have some help. I’ve been so busy lately that I’ve found it hard to get people together. But, I am going to make it my goal to step it up a notch after the new year. I want my son to know his family, where he came from, and have these people in his life.

That is solely on my mother’s side of the family. My father’s side of the family gets along well and they all live in relatively the same area in Northern Virginia. So, we get together at least once a year around the holidays. I have my mother’s last name, ‘Bridges’. So, when we named our son, Juhlyun we made his middle name ‘Ring’, which is my father’s last name. We appriciated how close my father’s side of the family was and wanted him to have a stronger connection to that.

You can’t really choose your family but they are your family. So, you have a responsibility to know who they are and accept them for who they are. Also, every child has a desire and need to better know who his/her family is. So, during this holiday season pick up the phone and just call a couple people in your family you haven’t talked to in a while. Make a date to hang out or send email. Your future and your children’s future depends on it.

Spanish Learning: Spanish One

Okay, Spanish Lessons have been coming slow. I took 3 years of Spanish One when I was in high school. I failed every year because I wasn’t the type of student to turn in my homework or show up very often. I was too worried about learning programming. However, completely by accident, I learned the basics of Spanish syntax, pronunciation, and just little things that are very helpful in my mission to learn Spanish now. Plus, I have a decent vocabulary in Spanish for being as much of a beginner as I am. So, I’m ahead of Yendis (my girlfriend), a bit. But, I have been so busy with work I have only had time for two lessons. So, I don’t feel I’m moving fast enough. I do have a little over a year before I move to Uruguay so I feel I can come up to speed enough to not be fluent but to be able to converse in a decent fashion. Plus, once I get there I plan on getting a tutor to help me learn the native dialect and I’m sure that being there will improve our Spanish dramatically or at least I hope so. I’ll tell you all what, one month after I get there I will write a blog post completely in Spanish! That will gage how far I’ve come.

Juhlyun is Three Months (12 Weeks)

My son Juhlyun (pronounced Jullian) is 12 Weeks old. So, people have been asking for more pictures so I thought I would throw up a few pictures below that were taken over the past couple months. He puts his hands in his mouth a lot now and he laughs and smiles a lot too.

Having a Home Office

When you work at home some times it can be difficult to get the right space to work in. I just moved my office upstairs in to one of our empty rooms. Reason being is because it used to be in the dining room downstairs. Yendis would bring the baby and lay him down in the dining room and she would tap my shoulder and ask me to do things, the tv would be too loud, etc… Generally it just interupted my work flow. So, I made some logical choices on the placement of my office.

  • My office must be away from main traffic of the house as to not cause minor distractions.
  • My office must have enough room for equipment.
  • Windows. I don’t like my office to have open windows so I put up shades. I like to easily be able to control the amount of light that comes in my office so I don’t get glare or anything like that.
  • My office had to have a door which I could close and not be interrupted by the others in the house. Those other people in my house had to know not to interfere with me unless it’s very important.
  • No children. You cannot have children near by your office. It will cause interruptions.
  • Small snacks and beverages. This is nice but I don’t currently have it. You should have snacks and beverages available to you in your office.
  • Cooperation. You need to have cooperation between you and the others in your household to maintain a good working environment and a good living environment side by side.

Also, remember, one of the advantages of working at home is being able to easily spend time with your family. So, take time out, no matter how busy you are to escape work and see the ones you love.
